Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1939. Hardcover. Near Fine/very good. Hardcover in light grey cloth stamped in gilt with an image of a cat, over pink spine lettered in gilt. xi+ 305 pp. with chater heading drawings by Susanne Suba. Generally fine, all gilt bright, cute bookplate on the front pastedown featuring a black cat atop a small stack of books. In the original dust jacket also with black cat design, faded at the spine, price clipped. A treasury of cat-lore gathered from history, legend, art, and observation that was first published in 1901. Features chapters on The Cat of Antiquity, the Dark Ages, Renaissance, the persecution of cats, the act in art, etc.
