A dictionary of dreams, often categorized both in an elaborate and inordinate manner. This title was the first in a series of books on dreams, based on the writer's own oneiric experiences and shrouded in mysticism. Text block is heavily toned. The edges of the first few leaves are brittle and those of the title page are chipped. Probably lacks a preliminary blank. A very good copy. Uncommon. ; Octavo.

Copiously illustrated with facsimiles and colour reproductions, (many of which are fold-out and impressively large) of remarkable manuscripts and bindings throughout history. In contemporary 1/4 calf with raised bands and blue labels at one stage this set must have been particularly eye-catching but sadly time has taken its toll somewhat. In various states of condition ranging from Good/VG to Fair only. Most with substantial off-setting in places, many tissue-guards missing from the plates. Rubbed/slightly bumped at the corners and along the edges of the boards, and a few minor scrapes to the surface of both covers. The block is reasonably fresh and not browned. Free from owner names etc, there is a small stain to the margin of page 13 see picture). Signed in blue ink by Tove Jansson at the front endpaper.
