About This Item
Freeport: Published For Brandeis University By The Bond Wheelwright Company, 1969. Hardcover. Near Fine. 373 pages, blck cloth hardcover with decoration in Near Fine condition in clear mylar sleeve. Dr. Bronstein leads the reader toward a better understanding of Japanese Painting. One would have to oversimplify in any attempt to describe them: for example, the contrast between the "spheric" concept of space as expressed in China - also Greece - its stability, continuity and solidarity, and the about-to-be space volume, tension, discontinuity of Japanese Painting - brought oout over and pver again, in verbal image, in history, in the illustrations. The play of words throughout, the search for a new myth, the journey into the eye - this is a book to own, to read and re-read, and through it to see the hostory of art as a history of ideas told anew through the visual - encompassing works as remote from each other as Islamic art and contemporary America.
