Brussels: Editions Est-Ouest, (1964)., (1964).. Good. FROM THE LIBRARY OF AMERICAN COMPOSER & CONDUCTOR LEONARD BERNSTEIN - Oblong quarto, 11 inches high by 14-3/4 inches wide. Hardcover, bound in color pictorial paper boards backed with a tan cloth spine. The covers are bumped and the rear cover is soiled with small brown stains, possibly brown ink or coffee. 131 pages plus the colophon printed on one side only, illustrated with 26 color plates. The front hinge is just starting to crack. Very good.

From the library of Leonard Bernstein [Sotheby Sale 7070, Lot #144], inscribed to him on the front endpaper by the Commissioner of Tourism: "Au Maitre Leonard Bernstein, en signe de bienvenue a Bruxelles, et en temoignage de ma tres vive admiration / [?] / Commissaire general du Tourisme / 22/8/1968".

The author writes in his introductory "Letters to a Friend": "My purpose, in these few pages, is to invite you to wander around in our provinces, from Flanders to Wallonia, from Wallonia to Flanders, through Brabant looking for that 'multiple splendor' of a country whose narrow borders make all the more astonishing its vast natural and artistic variety."
