About This Item
Born in 1879, Herrera was the kind of daredevil who embraced the whole idea of flying from ballooning to biplanes. A trained engineer, he took an intense scientific and practical interest in all aspects of man made flight. This biography (translated into English by Elizabeth Ladd) tells the story of his life, including the Spanish Civil War and life in Paris during the Nazi occupation. At the age of 62 he became the Director of the National Office of Aeronautical Studies and Research in Paris. After an exciting and often risky life, he died at a good old age in 1967. The book has been edited by Thomas F Glick, the Chair of History at Boston University. Illustrated with photos in black and white, plus some illustrations by Herrora himself, who was a talented artist as well as an engineer and scientist.. Quite a character! .231 pages, including index.
