About This Item
Yosemite Valley: D.J. Foley's Yosemite Falls Studio, [1909]. Small octavo. [8], 113, [3] pp. With ads and numerous photographic illustrations. Folding map opposite pp. 10 & 76. Publisher's printed green wrappers with green cloth spine. Front hinge cracked, couple of creases to front, owner's name in pencil. Overall, a very good copy of this very famous Yosemite guide-book.Ninth yearly edition of Foley's annual guide, based on the guide he first published in 1892 and revised in 1894 (both of which are notoriously rare). Daniel Foley managed the Yosemite Valley tourist office, which published a guide, a view book, and a newspaper for visitors. Foley's Yosemite Souvenir and Guide was heavily used by the valley's 8,000 annual visitors. Filled with tour and day-trip advice and with photos of the spectacular falls and granite features, the guide also includes ads for visitor services such as Salter's Valley Store, Cook's Sentinel Hotel, Fiske's photography studios, and Curry's Camp.
