Undated, circa 1870s-80s. Moving account of a powerful Cornish Christian preacher, descended from Cornish miners, who also preached in Devon. The text reproduces Richard's Cornish dialect which renders the account more vivid and authentic. Dark Blue cloth cover with bright gilt lettering on front and spin and blind stamped decoration on front, back & spine. Beveled edges. All page edges Red. Black endpapers. Frontis illus. a full-length Portrait of Richard Hampton, otherwise known as "Uncle Richard" or "Foolish Dick", protected by tissue guard. Hinges cracked. Old cellotape reinforces joint between half-title, frontis, tissue guard and title page, otherwise text block firm. Lead penciled name & address on back of half-title page and small penciled name on back of ffep. No other inscriptions.
