Born in 1823, Dorsey Baker studied medicine and practiced briefly in Des Moines before crossed the plains to Oregon in 1848, invested in Portland real estate, founded a store in Walla Walla, was involved in banking and transportation, and in general, was instrumental in the progress of southeastern Washington and the surrounding areas.
