Chicago : The Chas. B. Ayer Company, 1900. Cloth. Very Good. 9.5" by 7". None. A highly illustrated collection of four books about South African History, Wars and with some biographies. Superbly illustrated with original drawings and photographs under the direction of George Spiel. Four volumes bound in one, continuously paginated. The four books are: The History of South Africa; Cecil J. Rhodes, Capitalist and Politician; Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger; and The British Boer War - 1899-1900". William Douglas Mackenzie, D.D., LL.D. (1859 - 1936) was an American Congregational theologian, born at Fauresmith, Orange River Colony, South Africa, educated in Edinburgh at Watson's College School and at the Congregational Theological Hall. He studied at Göttingen, then emigrated to the United States whereat he served as professor of systematic theology at Chicago Theological Seminary at Hartford from 1895 to 1903, president of the Hartford Seminary after 1904, and served as President Emeritus of the Hartford Seminary Foundation. Mackenzie was also a member of the Hartford Civitan Club. With previous owner's ink inscriptions dated 1900 to front free endpaper and front blank. In original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart but with slight wear to extremities and slight rubbing to boards. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Generally bright but with slight marginal age toning as usual, clean but with the occasional handling mark. Very Good
