About This Item
Pace University Press, October 1999. Paper Back. New. A revised edition of the most thorough modern account of one of the saddest, most sordid episodes in the history of Christendom: the conquest of the already-declining City by a crusading army of Venetians in 1204, inaugurating the sixty-year Latin kingdom there. Somewhere in our quest ''for the union of all mankind'' the hardest truths must be faced, and many times those truths lie in the bitter history of mankind's sundering. Original sources are exhaustively exploited in this retelling (as a concluding essay by Alfred Andrea details), and the scholarly apparatus is extensive. The scrutiny focused by our authors on the events makes partisanship and polemics superfluous.
