About This Item

London: W. Clowes and Sons, 1838. Book. Good. Bound Folio. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. 8 pages, from the librarys of the following individuals: Henry Blackwell as per bookplate on front endpage, Cared Doeth Yr Encilion- Let the wise respect the past- and dated 1893 J. H. Dillingham inscribed his name and the title Fragment of Aelfric's Grammar Glossary etc on the light blue cover sheet sheet. The book was bound in red three quarted leather with marbled boards. I believe the manuscript was originally paper wraps with the blue end pages as the cover sheet.? The original manuscript has a very old subtle crease which is on every page of the manuscript except the two blank end pages thus my deduction. The backstrip has the title in gilt with decorations. The book comes with a 7 3/8" by 8 5/8" old photograph of a painting of Sir Phillipps. The book shows wear and soiling. The manuscript is disbound from the binding although the binding still lends itself to a nice portfolio. The first inch of the backstrip is gone and there is a tear along the gutter from the top. The top right corner appears to sadly been chewed away rounding the corner. Missing the two rear end pages. Nonetheless, an incredibly important document, and rare in any condition..
