About This Item
New York: Schocken, 1996. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A book of a wartime childhood translated from the German by Carol Brown Janeway. This is an extraordinary memoir of a small boy who spent his childhood in the Nazi death camps. The author does not know if his real name is Wilkomirski or how old he is, because his memories began after he was discovered by Allied liberators at Auschwitz. The book's title comes from the fragments of memory he retained from his childhood. "Beautifully written, with an indelible impact that makes this a book that is not read but experienced, Fragments is ' a masterpiece." Spine bottom a bit bumped as is the lower front cover which is embossed black paper over boards. Spine lettering is gilt. Jacket ( large Band 5" tall) is not clipped ($27.95) and perfect except for one small wrinkle at front fold.
