Description:
Paris: Galerie Beaux-Arts, 1938.. Large octavo. Pictorial stiff wrappers (after a design by Tanguy). Very heavily illustrated with drawings, photographs, facsimiles, etc. Pale green wrappers somewhat tanned at edges, neatly recased, with shallow loss at crown and toe of spine, usual light foxing, otherwise a very good copy in lightly chipped and tanned glassine wrapper. This copy is significantly better than the norm for this book. First edition. A multi-disciplinary exercise in self-explanation, drawing on primary texts for the definition of terms and tendencies, and reproductions of artworks by those who at various times found or placed themselves under the umbrella of Surréalisme. The work was compiled to accompany the Exposition International du Surréalisme, organized by Breton and Eluard, with the assistance of Duchamp, Ernst, Dali and others, and the uncommon [8]pp. catalogue of the exhibition (inevitably a bit tanned) is laid in.

Description:
1665 NAPLES Revolt of 1647 Spain Thirty Years War Raimond Mormoiron Napoli RAREEsprit de Raimond de Mormoiron was a 17th-century French military writer known for his role in the Battle of La Marfee during the Thirty Years' War as well as the more famous Naples Revolt of 1647. In the summer of 1647, Spanish rule placed numerous excessive taxes on the locals of Naples which spurred a violent, months-long revolt. Mormoiron's first-hand account of the Naples Revolt has long-been one of the best accounts of the uprising and is an important source on the feudal and political climate of Spanish and Neapolitan nobility during the Thirty Years' War.

Description:
1844 1ed History of the BASTILLE French Revolution Prisoner Torture IllustratedA fascinating and important 1789 account of the infamous storming of the Bastille and the French Revolution. In July of 1789, French revolutionaries sought to gain control of the French fortress and prison – a sign of taking power away from the French throne. Authors Auguste Arnould and Alboize du Pujol published a highly detailed and impressive account of the prison and its symbolism during the French Revolution. "History of the Bastille" offers descriptions of prison escapes, the torture of prisoners, and the state of the prison throughout the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and into the late 18th-century.

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
