About This Item

Hollywood, CA, U.S.A.: Kennel Review - B & E Publications, 1980. Assumed First Edtion . Hard Back. Near Fine/Good. 8 1/2" X 11. 140 pages with Glossary. Previous owner's embossed seal at top of endpaper. No other marks or stamps and interior is beautifulfaultless. Red boards with white lettering and front decoration. Very minor wear to unbumped corners. Dust jacket shows some surface scuffing and edge and corner wear. Mind reading could be an especially entertaining ability to possess around dog shows - particularly in the ring. As we watch the antics of what some aspiring handlers consider style and showmanship or observe the stark terror inscribed on the faces of the beginner we can only imagine what is going on in their minds. And, at the same time, what the judge observing all this is thinking. Stage fright on the part of the beginner is no joke however, and over-handling, though laughable, is nothing to laugh at. Both seriously affect the chances of the dog in the ring. Competition at many shows is so intense that presentation is often the deciding factor between first and second place. Teaching the novice handler what is required of him and passing along some very professional advice to the more experienced exhibitor is what this book is all about. It is unique and complete. The author takes the reader through both word and picture every step of the way toward competent dog handling. It is a book that will be referred to time and time again and will undoubtedly become more and more meaningful and inspirational as the reader profresses toward proficiency. This book is of value to everyone involved in the sport of purebred dogs in that it gives every reader a far deeper understanding of what transpires between man and dog while they train for the ring and while they are in actual competition. Showing a dog properly is indeed an art and this book prepares the reader to both perform and appreciate its execution. Illustrated with ring charts and black and white photographs on almost every page. Includes photographs of memorable events and personalities.
