About This Item

London: George Routledge and Sons,, 1888. A lovely example of Routledge's Pocket Library edition of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Shelley's pioneering work was first published in 1818. The definitive, expanded, text, which includes a new chapter and the celebrated Preface in which she describes the novel's genesis in the nocturnal storytelling session at the Villa Diodati, was published in 1831, and it is this text which is published here. Small octavo. Original red cloth-backed red marbled paper boards, titles in gilt on black ground to spine. Spine slightly cocked and faintly toned, touch of wear to tips, free endpapers browned; a very good copy. Bleiler, Science-Fiction 2019.

Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus, generally known as Frankenstein, is a novel written by Mary Shelley. Shelley started writing Frankenstein when she was 18 and finished when she was 19. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley's name appears on the second edition, published in 1831.

How can something be "used" and new and "first edition from 1831 but also SEALED in the original shrinkwrap"? You should learn what these words mean or include only factual information in your descriptions when selling things.
