1925. letter. Near fine. A letter signed twice by Franklin Welles Calkins (1857-1928), 13 lines + signature on recto, and 7 lines + signature verso. Dated March 14, 1925. Creased where folded to fit in envelope, else fine. Calkins has written out an excerpt from the forward of his book The Wooing of Tokala, an Intimate Tale of the Wild Life of the American Indian Drawn from Camp and Trail, and on the other side apologizes for the delayed response as he was recovering from an illness. Calkins was an American adventurer and folklore writer. He spent his early years among the Black Hills of the Dakotas and learned to speak several Indian languages fluently. He wrote Indian and frontier stores Golden Days, Youth's Companion, and other magazines, as well as several adventure novels.
