Mostly, the book includes woodcuts, some presented in black-and-white and some in color, with many in full-page--though some in reduced form. There's even a fold-out, "To Brooklyn Bridge." The subtitle AGAINST THE GRAIN, as discussed in the book's introduction, reveals something about Frasconi's views on art, namely, that a real artist must go "against the grain" and reveal the obscured truths we all need to see in order to better ourselves. Overall, the sampling is generous, interesting, and beautiful.
