About This Item
London: Chris Beetles Gallery, 2010. Book. Fine. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. 10 1/2" x 8 1/2", 119 pages, Fraser family tree, 2 maps, illustrated in black and white and colour, 8 detailed appendices with chronologies, exhibition lists etc on individual family members. Charles Lane's new study is the first substantial publication devoted to the artists, and this does much to clarify the complexities of their lives and works. The main text comprises a group biography, which is supported by a family tree and a number of previously unpublished portrait photographs. This work traces their Scottish roots and Bedford childhoods, before charting their artistic careers, and detailing their painting ground. Many images, maps and topographical photographs illustrate those grounds and the watercolours that resulted. The text also introduces the reader to the fact that three of the brothers were illustrators. A series of monographic appendices then records and analyses the work. Signed on title page 'For Robert(?), / Not a horse in sight! / Best wishes / Charles / 8/6/10'. Hb in dw, a fine copy. .
