Washington DC: mfg. by Gateways Unlimited, [197-]. 1.75 inch diameter pin, minor scuffing and a couple of spots, rear has a dent to rim, not visible from front. In support of the Wilmington 10 (including Benjamin Chavis, later head of the NAACP, pictured on the pin), who had been convicted of arson and conspiracy in the firebombing of a white-owned business and sentenced to a total of almost three centuries in prison. Amnesty International declared them to be political prisoners in 1976, and the convictions were overturned in 1980 on the grounds that exculpatory evidence had been hidden.
