London: Chapman and Hall, 1898. First English edition, pp xvi, 520; with illustrations, index, folding map. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering. Corners bumped and rubbed, mild wear to bottom edge, very good. Hourst explored the Niger from Timbuktu to the sea on behalf of the French government, adding much to knowledge of the river and the inhabitants of the surrounding areas.
