About This Item
London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1941. First edition of du Maurier's third novel. Octavo, bound in full blue morocco to mimic a gentleman's coat with four titanium skull-shaped buttons. In fine condition. A unique example. Set in Cornwall during the reign of Charles II, du Maurier's 1941 novel Frenchman's Creek tells the story of a love affair between impulsive English lady, Dona, Lady St. Columb, and French pirate, Jean-Benoit Aubery. In 1944, it was adapted into the film of the same name starring Joan Fontaine, Arturo de Cordova, and Basil Rathbone as Rockingham.
