Los Angeles, CA: Friday Morning Club, 1934. First edition, paperback.. Small 8vo with 124 pages. The Friday Morning Club at 940 South Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 for the criteria of social history and architectural significance. Designed by architects Allison & Allison and built in 1923, it was the home for many years to the Friday Morning Club (FMC). It was the largest single women's club in California, with membership of over 1,800 women by the 1920s. The Club library contains correspondence between (founder) Mrs. Severance and Susan B. Anthony, dated 1900 and 1901. When suffrage was achieved in California in 1911, Mrs. Severance, at the age of 91, was honored by being the first woman to register in Los Angeles. The Friday Morning Club's women continued to meet and serve society from their rented quarters on Wilshire Blvd. until the 1990s.The book is in good condition with bumping to corners and edges.
