Melbourne and London : William Heinemann, 1955. xi, + 193pp., unpaginated b/white halftone plate section, plus a like, photographic subject portrait frontispiece (all called-for plates extant and attached). Book clean and square. Bright gilt title over minimally bumped and flecked cloth spine. Plain red, original cloth boards (blind-stamp publisher's device on rear board) very good. Textblock mildly tanned, else lightly flecked. Colour, photographically-illustrated dustjacket edgeworn and nipped, with repaired tears and creases, plus two repaired holes, and dampstaining on verso. Much-travelled writer and public official Hector MacQuarrie (1889-1973) tells the story of Queen Salote Tupou III (1900-1965) of Tonga. Unpopular in her early years because her mother was of 'low caste', she won hearts and minds in Britain and Tonga with her ever-smiling personality whilst in London for the Coronation celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 . . . Contents include: Prelims., Foreword, 20 chapters. Book weight approx. 460g.. First Edition. Hardcover and Dustjacket. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
