Exterior is in poor shape with both boards detached in leather to spine is missing. Internal binding of the text pages is good and pages are tight. Foldout map at page 778 is still present and attached. Marbled end pages and pastedowns and front and rear are also present though the front marbled end page has some darkening and chipping along the edges. Front pastedown contains the 19th century bookplate of Annie C. Nutting, second front end page has a signature in pencil of J. S. Nutting. No other handwriting found. Pages are toned due to age and there is some foxing present though this is mainly limited to the first few pages and front and rear. Endpapers a little stained; also pencil notations and previous owner's signature. Burgundy cloth with gilt titles and design on the spine and upper cover. Spine is faded and damaged at the head/tail. Gilt on the upper cover is lovely and bright. Corners are bumped and a little frayed. Light scuffing on the covers. Binding is loose near the middle, but pages are all intact. GOOD-.
