About This Item
UK: H.R.Ritchie. Very Good/Very Good. 1990. Third Edition. Hard Cover. 8vo 0951316400 Signed by the Author SIGNED BY AUTHOR OF FFEP. The Fusing of the Ploughshare' is the story of an East Anglian farm worker who volunteers to join the colours of a Territorial Yeomanry Regiment before the Second World War, serving on the guns throughout the dark days of the Desert Campaigns in North Africa. The account in the earlier chapters of East Anglian farming life is beautifully paced and written. It makes compulsive reading and abounds with fine descriptive passages, glistening with humour. The course of the war in North Africa is faithfully followed and is a vivid account of life in the desert, the privations encountered during those dark and yet glorious days. Most of the military units mentioned in this book are actual regiments or formations. Desert veterans will recall with nostalgia the wide and lonely spaces and the heat of the desert sun. .
