Paris: Marchant, 1842. Hardcover. Good. steel engraved plates [40 as listed] byMulready, Mulready,Chalon, Faulkner,Kneller etc. Sm.4to Green blindstamped cloth spine gilt [edges rubbed,sl.marked /lower hinge with 2" split] All Edges Gilt text paper uniformly tanned. Plates on thicker paler paper but some plates have narrow edge browning and a few have pale foxing but not near to any of the images. These plates are each illustrations for characters in literature and the text accompanying each plate by authors. The verso of the half title and the title [on the recto only] have a damp tide mark. A nice gift inscription dated 1873 to a Sub-Lt. in the llth Chasseur regiment given to him by a fellow officer.Text in French
