A new brand of kidnaping is Introduced by a mysterious gang, who abduct Nancy Wentworth, a popular musical comedy star, Luccl, a notorious gangster, and four wealthy business men. Relatives of the kidnaped persons are informed that they must pay "board money” to Insure the prisoner’s safety. Jerry Calhoun, airplane pilot, who was with Nancy when she was carried away, his friend Emory Battles and Stevens, a detective, pick up the trail of the gang when the money Is collected and follow the kidnapers' hydroplane in their own airplane. The captives find themselves In some tropical place, where the uncertainty and heat undermine their nerves. The leader of the (gang, Ashwood, a cultured man who is very lame, watches their strained emotions. Luccl and Mallory, a millionaire stockbroker, In rivalry over Nancy, begin to quarrel. Incited by Ashwood they start fighting what Nancy believes to be a "battle to the death. ” Eustace Adams graduated from St. Lawrence University (New York) in 1915. His writing career began about 1928, and he published at least 128 stories between 1928 and 1953 in magazines such as 'The American Magazine' and 'Argosy'. He also wrote at least 20 novels, primarily between 1928 and 1932. Four movies were made from his writings (see the IMDB link). He wrote the screen play for the film 'Under Secret Orders', released in 1933. His short story 'Sixteen Fathoms Under' was made into the movies "Sixteen Fathoms Deep" in 1934 and into "16 Fathoms Deep" in 1948.
