A novel presented as a diary by its main protagonist, Mary Cabot, who mourns the death of her brother Royal. Much of the plot is presented as a dialogue about the afterlife between the two women. First published 1868 just following the American Civil War and it was popular in the 19th century and reissued during WW1 due to its uplifting view of the afterlife..
