Illustrated with four brilliant chromolithographs from water color paintings; eight text illustrations from crayon drawings; and four etchings. Original tissues are foxed, but the plates are clean. All edges gold. 4to. 300 mm. Interesting original full cloth binding, decorated in gold. Wear at extremities, but still nice. Very Good overall. Poetry and pictures illustrating lilies and their associations in Victorian times with love, death, and Christianity. Manuscript presentation to "Mary R. Slaymaker, St. Valentine, 1880." Miss Mary was born in 1855 and married in 1880 - hopefully she married her thoughtful Valentine's Day suitor;) W134 0.0. Hardcover.

Illustrations include four color lithographs, eight black and white crayon drawings color backgrounds with a verse below, plus etchings. Dark green cloth over beveled boards, gilt lettering and decoration, all edge gilt, about 11.5 inches tall. Covers rubbed with some fraying to corners and spine ends, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages with some foxing (age speckling) to the tissues next to the illustrations, clean pages, name of Nellie L. Newell in calligraphic letters on preliminary blank along with Christmas 1877, no other markings.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.

An attractive melding of words and images, this volume contains poetry, tinged with spiritual or religious themes, with lovely illustrations featuring lilies as a motif.
