First edition, small 4to (214 x 177 mm), vi, 246, [2]pp., with terminal errata leaf, 14 copper engraved plates on 13 folding leaves, contemporary calf, peeling to base of spine. First edition of this account of horsemanship, which contains detailed information on the selection, purchase and maintenance of horses, and the duty of an officer in exercises. Count von Bennigsen, Russian name Leonty Leontyevich (1745-1826) was a Russian General of German origin who played an important role in the Russian army during the Napoleonic wars. Provenance: Two old oval library ink stamps to title of the 3 Dragonregiments Officersbibliothek. Not in Podeschi, Mellon or Huth.
