Belleville, Ontario: Billa Flint Publications, 2000. 3rd Edition. Soft cover. Near Fine. 12mo (tall). No. 1 in a series, "Scalawags and Scoundrels." Soft cover. 82 pp. B&W photos in-text. C.W. Hunt has written extensively about the Prohibition period in Canada, and in particular about the men - and one woman - who smuggled Canadian whisky and beer across Lake Ontario in the dead of night. Gentleman Charlie was reputed to be worth a cool $3 million dollars. His amorata, Jennie Batley, has been largely ignored, but Hunt has discovered her fascinating story, the only lady smuggler on the Great Lakes during the Roaring Twenties.
