Small folio (8.25" x 5.5"); wear to original marble board and half leather binding: spine is gilded in 6 compartments. Second edition. Owner signature in ink on front free end paper (Joseph Hamblin). Overall toning and scattered foxing throughout. One page of text with a small tear. Philadelphia: John Mellish, 1816.<br/> <br/> Four uncolored maps include Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore Annapolis, all with toning and scattered foxing. The fold out map, "Specimen of the County Maps to be Constructed by virtue of an Act of the Legislature directing the formation of a Map of Pennsylvania", is in beautiful hand color. Shows the Susquehannah River and Harrisburg. Small tear to lower left margin. <Br> <br> John Melish (1767-1822) is known for his beautiful early maps of the United States. This atlas accompanied a large separately published six-sheet map of the United States, the first to show the country from coast to coast.<br/> <br/>
