The fine colored folding map was done by Sidney E. Morse and Samuel Breese.

Account of the Territory, soon to become a state, by its most notable early scientist; second edition, "greatly improved", with 1847 Morse & Breese folding tinted map of the southeast part of the Territory, showing the areas south of the Fox & Wisconsin Rivers sectioned. Hardcover, full blue cloth, gilt titling, blind-stamped decoration. Ex-library, with a few rubberstamps, faint spine numbers, sort of a pocket; heavy foxing - though the map is but little affected - general wear & rubbing, light chipping to spine ends, spine tanned & spotted. Text clean; 208 pages including a 6-page catalogue of Hopkins' other books, largely phrenological, dated 1847; folding map as frontispiece.. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Duodecimo.

Milwaukee: I. A. Hopkins, 1846. Second Edition, Greatly Improved. HB. Blue embossed cloth, gilt lettering on spine, 12mo, 208 pp. including 6 pages publishers ads at rear. With a hand colored map of the southern half of the state by Sidney E. Morse and Samuel Breese, and dated 1847. Lapham [1811-1875] arrived at what was to become the city of Milwaukee in 1836, and this is the second edition of the first significant treatment of the geography of Wisconsin. Lapham went on to study the Indian Mounds of Wisconsin, and was instrumental in helping to create the U.S. Weather Service. No marks in book, binding tight. Light foxing to end papers. Map complete with no foxing, but has old tape repairs to one panel. Covers show one small ink stain on front cover, upper corners bumped, spine sunned with minor chipping along rear hinge. Book condition Good+.
