About This Item

1685 Vossius Etymologicum Latin Language Etymology Dictionary Vellum FOLIO

Gerardus Vossius was a 16th-century Dutch classical theologian known for being one of the first to treat theological dogmas and non-Christian religions from a historical point of view, rather than the more accepted theological. His works of rhetoric were widely popular and were used as textbooks during and after his lifetime. He followed Aristotelian thought and was influenced not only by Aristotle, but also by Cicero and other ancient philosophers.

Vossius's "Etymologicum" was a lengthy Latin language study, gathered and edited as a dictionary. This 1685 edition was published as part of the complete works of Vossius, printed in Amsterdam by Blaeu.
