About This Item
New York: Gagosian Gallery, 2021. Hardcover. New. 0x0x0. [ART]. Larry Gagosian, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Gerhard Richter. "Gerhard Richter: Cage Paintings." New York: Gagosian Gallery, 2021. English language. Hardcover. 12.25 x 10.5 in. 31 x 26.5 cm. 92 pp. Text clean. New. ISBN: 9781951449063."Characterized by their large scale and concentrated materiality, Richterââ¬â¢s six Cage paintings (2006) are composed of intersecting lines, fields, and swaths of color applied with a broad squeegee. The paintings are titled after influential composer, artist, and philosopher John Cage (1912ââ¬â1992), whose music Richter was listening to when he produced the series. Shown alongside the Cage paintings is a group of abstract drawings Richter made in a single, characteristically intensive working session during the summer of 2020. In addition to reproductions of the works and installation photography of both exhibitions, the catalogue features an introduction by Larry Gagosian and a conversation between the artist and Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries in London.
