As the Turks invaded the Ottoman Empire the tall-format, one-page newspapers known as broadsheets functioned to bring visual images of the major players and details of military developments to news-hungry citizens. Paas (Carleton College) continues his series of broadsheets--collected from dozens of libraries--with this 11th volume covering 1683-1685. He provides background with a couple of essays and points out that during the time period under consideration there was a surge in broadsheet publication; and, in contrast with earlier surges, they were generally informative rather than satirical. The bulk of the book consists of the broadsheets shown full page (in an oversize format: 9.75x13.5"), their size, location(s), and themes carefully documented.
