About This Item
Magstadt: Horst Bissinger, 1963. Reprint. Linen boards. Some minor wear and slight grubbiness to cloth, else a very good copy. 8vo. xxii+695pp. A very important historical survey of erotic literature, with particular emphasis, as may be imagined, on German contributions to the field. The first edition, which was reissued twice, once in 1927 [Stuttgart: Julius Puttmann] and again in 1933, was illustrated with 112 plates which are not, unfortunately, included in the present reprint. A French translation was published in 1933, and in the same year an English version of the chapters dealing with French erotica was published in the United States by Esar Levine under his Panurge Press imprint as The Erotic History of France, Including a History of its Erotic Literature, with the authorship ascribed to Henry L. Marchand.
