Donald MacKay. 8vo, light green striated cloth with black lettering and red & green floral framing stamped on spine and front cover, archival polyester-protected pictorial colored dust jacket (unclipped) depicting a Union rider - caisson and soldiers fighting, illustrated by Donald MacKay with several full-page two-tone black & yellow tinted sketches & more in-text; publisher's red topstain, pictorial endpapers depicting fighting soldiers, 189 pages. MacKinlay Kantor (1904 - 1977), was a former war correspondent during WW-II & Korea, journalist, novelist and screenwriter. He wrote more than 30 novels, several set during the American Civil War. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1956 for his novel, Andersonville. He also wrote the novel Gettysburg about the bloody battle and turning point of the Civil War.<br/><br/>SUPERIOR COPY for a book published during the Korean War. Tight, internally clean copy with light uniform age-toning to paper. Well illustrated with unfoxed sketches by Donald MacKay. Dust jacket (unclipped) has light soil and wear with some chipping mainly to the head and foot of its spine.
