About This Item
Edited by Evita Arapoglou. Texts by: Evita Arapoglou, Ian Collins, Michael Llewellyn-Smith, Ioanna Moraiti. 253 pp. A. G. Leventis Gallery, 2017.
--- A publication dedicated to the friendship between three significant figures of the 20th century; the artists Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika (1906-1994) and John Craxton (1922-2009) and the writer Patrick Leigh Fermor (1915-2011). The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name which was organised by the Leventis Gallery in collaboration with the Benaki Museum and the Craxton Estate.
This richly illustrated edition contains texts by the exhibition curators, reproductions of works of art by Ghika and Craxton inspired by the places where the three men had lived (Hydra, Kardamyli, Crete and Corfu), thoughts by Leigh Fermor, rare photographs, letters, dedications, as well as personal recollections of some of their friends.
The exhibition was first presented at the Leventis Gallery in Nicosia (February - May 2017), then traveled to the Benaki Museum (7 June - 10 September 2017) and afterwards to the British Museum in London (March - July 2018).
