VI, 336 pages, last two pages blank, list of illustrations, and list of illustrations within the text. Illustrated endpapers, both different, the front endpapers advertising the Princess Theatre farewell performances of Mr Wilson Barrett and the rear endpapers advertising Charles Reade adaptation of the French play L'assommoir -- which he called -- Drink. The text is illustrated with 100 black-and-white contemporary photographs and for black-and-white illustrations within the text. Purple coloured boards with black insert gilt edging is to the backstrip and within that black insert gilt titles. A little rubbing to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and bumping to the lower edge. Some faint fading to the edges of the backstrip and shelf wear to the lower book edges. Browning and staining to the top text block edges. Plain text dustwrapper with black background and red illustration to the front panel. Gilt and white titles to the front panel and the backstrip. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners rubbing and creasing to the dustwrapper edges. There was a 0.25 " tear to the top left-hand corner of the front dustwrapper panel. Rubbing and marking to the dustwrapper panels. Browning of the fold over panels. An invocation of the London West End in the last part of the 18th century and the early part of the 20th century. Not only the theatregoers and their lifestyles but also the players themselves are highlighted. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic.
