About This Item
New York, NY: David McKay, 1963. First Thus . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Richard W. Lewis (Illustrator). EX-LIB. Text/Bright & Near New. Beige boards/NF. DJ/NF w/trace edge wear; under library mylar. A colorful tale from Ester Weir (1910 - 2000) set in the dusty plains of Mexico. Young Manuel, nicknamed Indito (little indian), gathers wood daily from the mountain with his burro in tow. For Indito it is a good mountain and dreams of introducing it to his younger, blind sister Teco (a pet name; reference a downy-feathered Mexican owl). Father Luis thinks it a good idea, and so it came to be. On the children's very first trip together, Indito finds a bag of gold in a rocky crevice! Then more really strange things begin to happen ... are the local lore about the mountain mere superstitions?
