Hartford: American Publishing Company, 1873. First Edition, Later Printing. Hardcover. Octavo, [i]-xvi, 17-[576] pages with two leaves of advertisements in rear. In Poor condition. Bound in brown with gilt lettering and gilt stamped decoration. Boards have heavy splitting to front joint, boards exposed at corners and along edges, spine edges chipped off and frayed, and mild shelf wear. Binding loose. Textblock has light age toning, light foxing to some pages, and splitting to multiple gutters. Shelved Room A. BAL 3357. 1372600. Special Collections.
Synopsis
The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today was written by Mark Twain and Charles Warner in 1873. This novel by is the only one that Twain wrote a collaborator. This novel focuses on the corruption and big business ventures of post-Civil War America. A biting satire, this novel gave the era it's name in history: The Gilded Age.
