Original red blindstamped cloth with title stamped in gilt on front boards. Engraving of Girard College and lithograph full-length portrait of Stephen Girard as frontispiece illustrations. Girard was a shipping and banking tycoon who endowed Girard College in his adopted city of Philadelphia to educate financially needy white orphan boys. Girard College is still in existence, offering K-12 private education for low-income boys and girls of all backgrounds. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 85 pages .
