London: Printed by T. Bensley for J. White, 1801. 1st Edition . Very Good. 9.5 x 11.5 inches (24.5 x 29 cm). Full straight grain morocco leather binding by Root & Son (late Victorian period). Professionally rebacked with original spine laid over. Spine has five raided bands and gilt decorated compartments. Decorative gilt panels to boards, gilt decorated turn-ins. Marbled endpapers, all page edges gilt. Engraved bookplate to front pastedown endpaper: Charles G. King Jr. Collection, The Western Reserve Historical Society. Lightly embossed stamp of the Society to title page and a few margins within the text. A few short tears to outside edge of front free endpaper and first few preliminary pages, some scattered light foxing to text. Frontis and all 39 hand coloured plates are present and in excellent condition. Includes a vast array of sport and games, from hunting and jousting to chess and card games. A wonderfully illustrated work in a very attractive later binding. Overall condition is Very Good. Size: 9.5 x 11.5 inches (24.5 x 29 cm). Hardback. Printed pages: Large 4to. l, [6], 301, [1]

Contempory (or near contemprary) half leather binding with marbled boards. 12.5ins x 10ins, l, [6pp], 302pp plus frontis and 39 sepia printed plates. Previous owners signature to verso of frontis.There are old repairs to the verso of the frontis, pps 9/10 and 59/60. There is a small amount of loss to the margin of plate 4. Lightly foxed throughout. Marbled boards rubbed. Bottom corners very worn. Hinges re-inforced with fabric. A complete and attractive copy of this scarce first edition. VG.

Pp. l, [6], 301, directions to the binder on p.302, with 39 coloured copper-engraved plates, all with guards. Contemporary tree calf boards, early re-backing, with a newly added red spine label and leather repaired corners, with light wear to the edges and burn scars to some parts of the boards. Previous owner's bookplate removed from the paste-down endpaper. Light Scattered foxing, but otherwise a good clean copy in a tight binding. Lowndes, 2538.
