About This Item
Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1965. Hardcover. Good. John R. Neil. This is the White edition hardcover, as pictured. No dust jacket, pictorial covers as issued. Covers show light wear, corner bumps. Spine has slight age darkening, wear at head and tail. A prior owner has colored in all of the black and white interior illustrations by hand, in crayon. It's very charming, and you will either be enchanted or appalled. The color scheme conforms to the cover illustrations. (See my image, more on request.) This book is over 50 years old and not surprisingly there are one or two dirty fingerprints on the pages. Reilly & Lee hardcover, pictorial cover (no dust jacket as issued), not dated but issued in the mid-1960s, 286 numbered pages. Cover and interior illustrations by John R. Neil. 8vo (6.5"" x 9.25"") The 14th Oz book, and the last written by Baum. Dorothy and Ozma travel to warring cities in Gillikin country to negotiate a peace but end up getting captured instead. Can Glinda with her magic powered submarine rescue them?
Synopsis
Glinda of Oz is the fourteenth Land of Oz book written by children's author L. Frank Baum, published on July 10, 1920. Like most of the Oz books, the plot features a journey through some of the remoter regions of Oz; though in this case the pattern is doubled: Dorothy and Ozma travel to stop a war between the Flatheads and Skeezers; then Glinda and a cohort of Dorothy's friends set out to rescue them. The book was dedicated to Baum's second son Robert Stanton Baum.
