The scarce first edition of this memoir of Eugene Corri, a man who spent forty-five years as a boxing referee, and who in 1907 was supposedly the first person to officiate from within the ring.Corri even appeared as himself in Alfred Hitchcock's 1927 silent movie, 'The Ring'.Corri's conversational tone leads the reader through some of the 2,000 fights he refereed, including Mickey Walker against Tommy Milligan in 1927.Illustrated with sixteen photographic plates. Collated, complete.This work belonged to the library of Philip Brocklehurst, bearing his armorial bookplate to the front pastedown, and a dedication to him to the front free endpaper. London: Hutchinson, No date, post 1921 PROBABLY pre 1928, assumed First Edition. Dj has been much restored, now whole but discoloured especially on spine. Book worn at head and tail and lower edges. Top edge re-coloured. All pages yellowed; occasional foxing. Frontis; plus 15 photog plates, which are themselves clean, complete. All pages very slightly yellowed; occasional foxing. Belonged to John Hopley who was a prominent Rhodesian farmer, a Judge in the Cape, a 3 x capped Rugby player for England and maybe Britain's finest amateur boxer, (see other books in this catalogue). On the ffep J H has written page number 228, where he has made a notation. 288pp no index. This is Corri's earlier book and extremely rare. This book is signed by Stan Christodoulou, who is Corris' successor and equal in fame. Stan was inducted into Boxing's Hall of Fame in 2004 and has since clocked up over 50 years as a top-class international referee and has also written a book entitled "The Life and Times of Stanley Christodoulou" .
