In words & pictures, attempts to demonstrate the importance of the beaver in the overall scheme of Nature, highlighting his work in dam building for flood prevention. Though "his life is a constant struggle, he faces his difficulties bravely, & usually triumphs over them." Illustrated throughout the 148 pages with pen-and-ink drawings & full-page, full-color plates by German children's book artist Kurt Wiese (1887-1974). A FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1934, this hardcover 8vo (6" x 8.75" has green cloth over boards with a colorful paper pastedown to front, faded gilt lettering to spine. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with modest, age-appropriate tanning to edges. Heavy rubbing to both ends of spine, with some cloth loss & fraying, less rubbing all corners. NO DJ.
