Hartford: Brown and Parsons, 1849. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Good. 12mo. 356 pages. Hardcover bound in brown publisher's cloth with cover designs embossed in blind. The binding is worn but sound. There is some splitting in the cloth at the front hinge near the headcap as well as the rear hinge at the headcap. Headcap torn and pulled. Foot of the spine is bumped and abraded. Various early and later owners' notations on the endpapers. The text block is sound, and the text shows some foxing. Horace Bushnell (1802-1876) was a Congregational minister and theologian, originally from Connecticut. In the 1850s he moved to California for his health. This book was considered a bit heretical in its views towards the Trinity. He noted that the Godhead was "instrumentally three.
