Description:
New York: Random House, 1951. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Author. First Trade Edition, First state, with dark grey top-edge in the First Issue Dust Jacket [E. McKnight Kauffer misspelled, $3.00 price]. 8vo., 286pp. A fine copy. [No indication of edition stated as called for]. Nicely signed by Faulkner in black fountain pen at the top of the front free endpaper. Quarter-bound in black cloth over sea green cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. A very nice example of this work; a play, with long narrative sections, continuing the story of Temple Drake introduced two decades earlier in 'Sanctuary'. Faulkner's first book after winning the Nobel Prize. "I Decline to accept the end of man. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice but he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance". W.F. - Nobel Speech. While signed limited editions abound, signed trade editions are very uncommon as…

NP [Nashville, TN] 1923., 1923. 1-200 copies numbered and SIGNED by Wills and Tate, this being No. 115. 8vo. 32 pp. Original stiff tan stapled wrappers with black letterpress title embossed on front cover. This book, now of noted rarity, was self-published by the authors in Nashville. It is Allen Tate's first book. Both authors were active members of the Southern or Fugitive Agrarians and contributed to I'll Take My Stand: The South and the Agrarian Tradition. The Golden Mean was written as a parody of T. S. Eliot's The Wasteland. The cover of the book has some toning around the extremities, a very small 1/2" tear top of spinal fold and very light edge wear. Contents bright. Overall a very good plus to near fine example of a fragile production. Seldom coming on the market, this is a rare book.. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Soft cover. Near Fine.

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence.
