London: printed by Tho. Newcomb, for Robert Pawlet, at the sign of the Bible in Chancery-lane, 1673. Second impression. Hardcover. Quarto. [10], 272, 271-277, 288, 281-, [1], 176, 169-190, [2]; 7, [1] pages; Bound by Jon Robbins in modern period-style full brown leather. Minor shelf wear, some tanning to top of spine. Archival repairs to first two pages. Some chipping and minor insect damage to leaves A2-B1. Damp staining to bottom of text block throughout. Scattered pencil and ink marginalia. Small open tears to the upper margins of pp. 17-20; closed tear to lower margin of p. 225. Archival repairs to pp. 61-63 and blank endpapers.

On the title page, the words "Mr. John Hales" and the following comma have had black shadows added behind them, apparently after printing. Below this, written in old ink, are the words "Some unskillfull hand hath attempted to improve the Print here."

Edited by Peter Gunning, whose name appears on A4r. "To the reader" signed: John Pearson. Title page in red and black. With an additional title page, engraved, lacking the edition statement. "Mr Hales letters from the Synod of Dort to the Right Honourable Sr. Dudley Carlton, .." begins new pagination on 2A1r. "A tract concerning schisme and schismaticks" (caption title), possibly issued separately, has separate pagination and register. "Dr. Balcanquals letters from the Synod of Dort to the Right Honorable Sr. Dudley Carlton, ..", 2N2-2T1. Possibly issued with "Sermons preach'd at Eton, .. The second edition" (Wing H275). 1345579.
